How to Determine the Version of Presentation Server for Windows Installed
|
Summary
This article provides information on determining the version of Presentation Server running on a Windows Server.
Background
For troubleshooting purposes an administrator may be required to check the version of Presentation Server that is running, however the simplest of these is not possible if the IMA Service is not running.
Procedure
If the IMA Service is running:- Open the Presentation Server Management Console.
- Expand the Servers node, and then right-click on the appropriate server and select Properties from the context menu.
- Click Information in the left-pane of the window to see the Product Version and Build Number, Installation Date, and any Feature Releases or Service Packs installed.
If the IMA Service is not running:- Open the Citrix Connection Configuration utility... [Read More]

How to Enable Full Page Heap for the IMA Service
|
Symptom
The IMA Service sometimes becomes unresponsive or crashes due to heap corruption.
Cause
Heap corruption results from application coding mistakes or corrupt external data.
Although various hotfixes exist, it is not always possible to identify which module (Citrix or non-Citrix) is responsible for heap corruption because the effects of heap corruption usually reveal themselves after some time.
Resolution
To detect heap corruption at the moment it occurs, enable additional runtime diagnostics (called full page heap). If this diagnostic is enabled, an application dump is generated.
First, download and install Debugging Tools for Windows from Microsoft to use the gflags utility:

How to ensure users have the desired regional settings
|
Scenario
Regional settings such as currency, date/time format, and numbers are user profile-based.
In a Terminal Server/Citrix environment, users from different regions may want to retain their client-side regional settings when logging on to the server.
To set up the correct regional settings, log on to the Citrix server, select Start > Control Panel > Regional Settings. Set the correct setting and log off so the setting is written to the user’s profile.
If users do not have access to the full desktop and are limited to initial or published applications, it is necessary to use a different method.
Method 1
This method sets the users’ regional options at logon by script:- 1. Create global groups based upon the users’ desired regional setting.
2. Create a test user for each global group.
3. Log on to the Citrix server with that test user and make appropriate changes within the regional... [Read More]

Session Reliability Overrides ICA KeepAlive Feature
|
Symptoms
When launching a published application with Session Reliability, ICA KeepAlive does not function.
With Session Reliability, after an ICA session is disconnected on the client side, the session might be recognized as in “active” status longer than the Sessions to keep active setting indicates.
Cause
This is by design. Session Reliability handles polling to check its condition itself.
More Information
For details on ICA KeepAlive, refer to CTX708444 - Configuring TCP KeepAlive Values to Improve WAN Links and ICA KeepAlives to Place ICA Session in a Disconnected State.
For details on ICA Session Reliability, refer to CTX104147 - Explaining ICA Session Reliability, Common Gateway Protocol, on... [Read More]

Error: Shadow failed. Error code 7051
|
Symptoms
You receive the following error message when trying to shadow in the shadow taskbar or in the Presentation Server:
“Shadow failed. Error code 7051
(Error 7051 - The requested session is not configured to allow remote control. )"

Cause
This problem is also seen when using remote control in Terminal Services. This indicates an underlying problem at the operating system level.

There is a Microsoft Group Policy object (GPO) that disables remote control. This GPO also disables Citrix shadowing.

Resolution
See Microsoft... [Read More]

You Do Not Have The Proper Encryption Level.. When Logging On To a Windows 2003 Server
Symptoms
When logging on to a Windows 2003 Server, the following error message is received:
“You do not have the proper encryption level to access this session.”
Resolution
Check if you have an encryption policy in place.
Open the Group Policy Editor and go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Terminal Services > Encryption and Security.
For the encryption level, the most restrictive policy between Microsoft and the settings in the Citrix connection configuration is enforced.
More Information
For more information, refer to these documents:
• CTX102374 - Error: You do not have the proper encryption level to access this Session. [Read More]

USB Memory Sticks are not Mapped in ICA Sessions
|
Symptoms
When connecting a USB memory stick to a system prior to starting an ICA session, the drive is not mapped in the ICA session.
Cause
The USB memory stick is detected as a Device with Removable Storage rather than a local hard disk device. Refer to the following screen shot:

-And-
The Mappings policy for the Presentation Server (Client Devices > Resources > Drives > Mappings) is enabled with the Turn off Floppy disk drives check box selected. Refer to the following screen shot:

Resolution
Clear the Turn off Floppy disk drives check box in the Mappings policy enabled for the Presentation Server. Refer to the following screen shot:

The "Allow only one instance of application for each user" Option does not Work
|
Summary
The Allow only one instance of application for each user option doesn’t work if the application is run from a published batch file.
Background
After Citrix MetaFrame XP Feature Release 3, there has been a design change that prevents Presentation Server from tracking applications that aren’t launched from the ICA Client.
Any application launched through another (through a published command line or a Visual Basic script or another method) is not tracked. This prevents the published application from appearing in the Presentation Server Console. It also prevents application limits from working.
Reason for the Design Change
Before Presentation Server 3.0, MetaFrame 1.0 kept track of all processes opened by the published application. This meant that the Allow only one instance of application for each use option also prevented any other instances if a process called by the published application was still... [Read More]
