YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee Chooses Citrix for Secure Application Delivery to Local and Remote Users
Non-profit Staff Benefits from Better Work-life Balance
FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. — 4/3/2006 — Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS), the global leader in access infrastructure solutions, today announced that the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee has centralized its IT infrastructure with the Citrix Access Platform, providing its employees with secure access to business-critical data and information. In furthering its commitment of work balance to its employees, the YMCA chose Citrix to significantly reduce the cost and complexity of enabling secure access for local and remote users, while providing administrators with better control over network security. These benefits also give the organization a much more effective remote workforce, eliminating the need for employees to stay in the office around-the-clock.
Prior to deploying Citrix, the organization struggled with demanding workloads that kept employees and executives alike at the office for long hours. The IT department in particular spent massive amounts of time maintaining legacy applications with a very limited staff. These legacy applications required numerous service packs and updates, forcing the four-person IT department to update more than 750 individual desktops every two months. In addition, the YMCA’s front-desk was using older PCs, resulting in slow check-in procedures and long lines for members waiting to enter the facility.
Implementing a Citrix and thin-client solution, the YMCA has reduced the time that IT spends on maintaining the legacy applications that it needs. With Citrix Presentation Server™, the organization can now host and update the applications centrally and provide access to them via application virtualization. Because Presentation Server transmits only mouse clicks and keystrokes to the thin-client devices, data and applications are safe from viruses, spyware, worms and other malicious code.
“Application virtualization is central to the YMCA’s security strategy,” said David M. Fritzke, information technology executive, YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee. “Sensitive member information is always fully protected, and our network never suffers from external attacks. Further, we can manage our systems with our small staff of four people without working around the clock.”
Additionally, through the Citrix Access Gateway™, an SSL VPN appliance that provides an always-on, single point-of-access, employees have the flexibility to work whether in the office or at home, allowing for a better work-life balance and a happier staff.
“As a non-profit organization whose focus is building strong kids, strong families and strong communities throughout Milwaukee, we are committed to our members and to our employees,” said Fritzke. “Citrix has given us the ability to let our managers and staff work from home and regain precious time with their families instead of being burdened by heavy workloads. With secure remote access to the applications we need from anywhere at anytime, we spend less time in the office, without worrying about possible security breaches or unauthorized access.”
