Symptom
When connecting to a published application, the following error message may be returned:
“Error: Cannot connect to the Citrix server. There is no Citrix server configured on (or routed to) the specified address.”
This error usually happens when connecting from a remote location.
Cause
The MetaFrame 1.8 ICA Browser Service or the MetaFrame XP IMA Service returned an address to the client that is not valid or reachable by the client. See CTX039746 -
IMA and ICA Browsing With Firewall Address Translation (NAT) for more information.

Or
A proxy may be causing the network communications to fail. Confirm what the Default browser settings are, since the proxy settings will be pulled from it. A network trace may be required to determine where traffic is being routed to.
Resolution
Ensure a client can successfully connect from the network that hosts the MetaFrame servers.
Verify
QFARM and
QSERVER report the correct internal addresses.
Unlike
QSERVER for MetaFrame 1.8, which shows the Alternate Address in brackets, MetaFrame XP uses the command line utility
altaddr. In addition, the registry location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\ICABrowser
\AlternateAdddresses\TCP indicates the external addresses.
Determine the address being returned to the client.
If using NFuse/Web Interface, save the Launch.ica file to the desktop and open it in Notepad. You can change embedded sites to launched sites as a temporary test and you can also use the information in CTX052061 -
Citrix Web Server Debugging & Analysis Tool.
If using the full Program Neighborhood Client, the analysis of a client-to-server bidirectional network trace shows the returned address.
Resolve the networking configuration
For multi-homed servers, CTX568182 -
Multihomed Computers and IMA and ICA Browser or the
MetaFrame XP Advanced Concepts Guide may help in resolving the error.
Often used utilities are ping, telnet, netstat –a, tracert, pathping, netmon, and
portmon.
